Priority to improve user experience with Viber’s own digital wallet Viber Pay and other features enhancement
Popular social media messaging app Rakuten Viber is entering the fintech category with Viber Pay, following the appointment of new CEO Ofir Eyal. Under the leadership of Eyal, Viber is heading towards becoming a super app from now on.
Needless to say, it had already started its services to integrate chatbot systems for digital payment systems and other telecommunications. Nepal too has a large number of Viber users. It has been a few years since Nepali digital wallets like eSewa and Khalti have been providing services through Viber.
Viber is determined to offer users more than its core messaging and calling features, a critical move to fulfill its vision of becoming a super app.
Rakuten Viber is on the path to becoming a super app; What features is it adding along with Viber Pay?
Viber rolls out Viber Pay the in-app payments service, allowing users to create a digital wallet within the platform.
Payment wallets can be connected to bank accounts, Visa, and Mastercard to make money transfers, purchase goods, and settle payments. Peer-to-peer transfers will be the first feature added to Viber and will be free for users.
Regarding this update, Viber CEO Eyal shares,
“In my capacity as CEO, I consider it an honor to guide Rakuten Viber’s highly motivated team as we work to achieve the company’s vision and goal in the face of upcoming difficulties. In order to improve the user experience and ultimately make Viber a super app, we also want to maintain the high standards and inventive spirit of the company. I will always be appreciative of and grateful to the staff members who helped make Viber what it is today.”
During his more than a 7-year adventure with the firm, Viber’s CEO, who assumed the position in August of last year, has significantly contributed to growing and bringing Viber closer to users. Prior to being appointed Chief Operating Officer, he served as the Vice President of Product at Rakuten Viber working on user experience, customer success, content, and localization.
How to Early Access Viber Pay?
According to the company, Viber Pay will launch in Germany and Greece later this summer. Before expanding to other regions, Viber will use the initial launch to collect user input that will help it further enhance the product.
How is Viber growing to become a super app?
Viber has recently added features to help users get the most out of their experience in both business and leisure, while also enticing them to speak with one another.
Asia Pacific (APAC) is one of Viber’s highest growth regions. It expands by over 20% yearly and keeps coming up with new collaborations and projects that are specific to the area.
Viber is planning to rapidly expand its user base in the Asia Pacific area by forming more relationships with nations specifically, localizing its business models, and offering additional advantages to its consumers.
With a 38% increase in group chats, a 26% increase in messages delivered to the group, and a 39% increase in community viewers, Viber continues to be one of the most renowned and trusted communication platforms in Nepal.
Individual users of the app, as well as major and small enterprises, and educational institutions, have shown loyalty and faith in it.
Small and local businesses were negatively impacted by the pandemic, suffering a 20–50% decline in overall earnings. To help these businesses recover from this crisis, Viber gave them the chance to go digital by empowering them to engage in one-to-many (via Communities and Channels) and one-to-one conversational commerce (via private messaging after engaging in the community or channel).
Rakuten Viber also contributed significantly by helping educational institutions and schools reinforce teaching and learning. The software introduced a number of top channels across multiple streams.
Additionally, the team recently held an educational webinar in collaboration with many schools where participants received in-depth instructions on how to use Viber’s assistive capabilities in educational and learning activities.
