By now most of you must have already heard about the Nagarik App. If somehow you haven’t; Nagarik App is a mobile application launched with government initiation to incorporate all government services in one app. From viewing citizenship to applying for a PAN number the government plans to make all its works simpler through the app.
The government has for now released a beta version of the app. It includes basic government functions such as viewing your citizenship, passport, education certificate, voter card, applying for PAN, and more. The app currently has over 3 million downloads just within a few days after its launch. This alone shows you the demand and need for such a service by the general public. The government had been working on the app for 3 years. The aim of the app is to solve an ongoing problem that has been creating angst amongst the general public. The problem being the numerous difficulties one faces in doing government-related work.
As in the past, we have seen digitalization of some government-related works such as paying electricity bills, drinking water bills. With this app, the government plans to digitalize all government-related works and centralize them into one app. This means that you will be able to do all government related works just from one app. It will not only save you the trouble of not having to physically go to government offices to get your work done but also you won’t have to download various different apps for your work.
How to Register?
- Download and Install the Nagarik App(Beta) from the Play Store or App Store.
- Choose your preferred language (English or Nepali).
- Enter your mobile number.
- Once you submit your mobile number you will receive a six digit code in the submitted mobile number. Then , enter the code.
- After that you will need to verify your identity through your citizenship, passport or voter’s card.
- You can choose to verify using any of the options and enter the required details.
- If your provided details are successfully verified you will be proceeded to the next page. There you will need to enter remaining details of your verified id.
- That’s it. You will then be able to use all the functions of the app.
The app has been receiving numerous complaints regarding failure to verify their citizenship. Therefore, the government has stated that they are working on a new system which allows the general public to request to correct the unverified information themselves through the app.
What can we expect from the Nagarik App?
In a statement during the inauguration, Communication Minister Parvat Gurung said,
“Since it is a beta version, the app will provide only around 50 percent services at the moment. However, our team is working on making all the services available in the next three months”.
In the near future the government has planned to incorporate all government tasks such as applying for a license, passport, voter card, renewing your license, bill book, paying bills, taxes, and more through the app. There are currently some issues with the app and its system here and there but it is named Beta for a reason. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, has urged all the people to use the app and suggest necessary improvements. It sure does sound very promising. With this, you will no longer have to wait in long queues for hours to get your government-related works done. So, with the help of this app, we hope that the general public can get their government-related works done faster and conveniently.
