As we move into 2025, foldable smartphones continue to evolve. One of the most anticipated devices this year is the Vivo X Fold 5. It’s not just another foldable phone;it could be a serious competitor to Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 . With rumors and teasers already circulating, there’s plenty to unpack about the Vivo X Fold 5 .

From design to performance, camera capabilities to battery life, this device promises to deliver top-tier features. Let’s dive deep into everything we know so far about the Vivo X Fold 5. We will also include its potential specs, launch details, and more.

1. Design and Display: Slimmer, Stronger, and More Durable

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro was praised for being one of the thinnest foldable smartphones on the market. Now, the X Fold 5 is expected to build upon that legacy with an even lighter and stronger design.

According to official teasers from Vivo, the new foldable phone will be both lighter and more robust than previous models. Early reports suggest it may weigh around 209 grams, making it surprisingly light for a foldable device. When unfolded, the phone measures approximately 4.3mm in thickness, and when folded, it sits at 9.3mm. This is a slim profile that rivals other high-end foldables.

Durability is also a key focus. It is rumored to feature IPX8, IPX9, and IPX9+ water resistance ratings, along with an IP5X rating for dust protection. These are impressive claims for a foldable phone, which typically struggles with environmental resilience.

In terms of aesthetics, the device is confirmed to come in three color options: White, Titanium, and Pine Green. On the back, you’ll find a large circular camera module adorned with Zeiss branding, indicating a strong focus on photography.

The display setup includes a main screen and a cover screen. The primary display is said to be an 8.03-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2K+ resolution. This promises vibrant visuals and smooth scrolling or video playback.

The outer cover screen is a 6.53-inch LTPO OLED panel with FHD+ resolution and also supports a 120Hz refresh rate. LTPO technology allows for variable refresh rates, helping conserve battery life by adjusting the screen’s refresh rate based on content.

One teaser video showed the phone running five apps simultaneously on the main screen, hinting at powerful multitasking capabilities. This suggests that the software has been optimized for productivity and seamless user experience.

 2. Performance: Powerhouse Under the Hood

The Vivo X Fold 5 is expected to be have latest flagship chipset ; the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. This comes as no surprise, given that the chip is now appearing across many 2025 flagships.

A recent GeekBench listing revealed that the device would come with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. So, it ensures smooth performance and ample space for media, apps, and files. Interestingly, this would make the X Fold 5 use the same processor as the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro, but a generation ahead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 found in the base X Fold 3 model.

It’s worth noting that the higher-end variant, likely the Vivo X Fold 5 Pro, may feature the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. That would give it a slight edge in processing power over the standard version.

Despite its slim design, the X Fold 5 packs a massive 6,000mAh battery, which is reportedly the largest ever used in a foldable smartphone. This should offer all-day battery life, even with heavy usage.

Charging speeds are equally impressive. The device is expected to support 90W wired fast charging and 30W wireless fast charging, allowing users to quickly recharge the battery when needed.

3. Camera: Zeiss Collaboration Returns

Vivo has long been known for its excellent camera systems, especially through its collaboration with Carl Zeiss. The X Fold 5 continues this tradition with a triple-camera setup that mirrors the hardware seen on the Vivo X200 series.

At the heart of the system is a 50MP Sony IMX921 main sensor, promising sharp and detailed photos in various lighting conditions. Complementing it is a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, ideal for capturing landscapes or group shots.

The third camera is a 50MP telephoto lens using the IMX882 sensor, offering 3x optical zoom. This gives users flexibility when shooting distant subjects without compromising image quality.

Together, these lenses create a well-rounded camera system that caters to everyday photography needs. From wide shots to portrait mode and zoomed-in details, the X Fold 5 seems ready to impress.

Thanks to the partnership with Zeiss, expect enhanced color science and optics that produce professional-grade results. Software enhancements like AI-powered scene detection and advanced computational photography are also likely to play a major role.

Video recording capabilities remain unclear at this point. However, considering the high-end specs, it wouldn’t be surprising if the X Fold 5 offered 8K video capture, slow-motion modes, and stabilization features similar to those found on the best smartphones today.

 4. Launch Date and Pricing: Coming Soon to China

Vivo has officially announced that the X Fold 5 will debut alongside the Vivo TWS Air 3 Pro on 25th June 2025. This marks the beginning of the brand’s foldable lineup for the year and sets the stage for competition with other foldables launching later in the year, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.

So far, the Chinese pricing has not been disclosed. However, leaks have provided some insight into how much the phone might cost in international markets.

A recent leak suggested that the Indian price could be around ₹139,999 INR, which translates to roughly $1,636 USD. If accurate, this places the X Fold 5 firmly in the premium category, competing directly with other high-end foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, OPPO Find N3 Flip, and Huawei Mate X5.

While this may seem steep, it’s important to consider the advanced specifications, camera system, and overall build quality that justify the cost. Additionally, foldables are still considered niche products with higher manufacturing costs due to their complex hinge mechanisms and flexible displays.

There’s no official word yet on global availability. But given the success of previous foldables, it’s likely that the X Fold 5 will eventually reach international markets such as Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and possibly North America.

5. Competition: How Does It Stack Up Against the Galaxy Z Fold 7?

With the Galaxy Z Fold 7 expected to launch later in 2025, all eyes are on how the Vivo X Fold 5 compares to Samsung’s next-generation foldable.

Both phones are expected to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors, putting them on equal footing in terms of raw performance. However, the X Fold 5’s 6,000mAh battery offers a significant advantage over the rumored 4,400mAh battery in the Z Fold 7.

On the camera front, while Samsung has traditionally had strong imaging capabilities, the X Fold 5 brings a triple 50MP system with Zeiss optics;similar to the highly-regarded Vivo X200. This could give it an edge in certain scenarios.

Design-wise, both phones aim for slimness and durability. The Z Fold 7 may benefit from Samsung’s years of foldable experience, but the X Fold 5’s rumored IP ratings show that Vivo is taking durability seriously.

Software optimization is another area to watch. Samsung’s One UI has evolved significantly for foldables, offering excellent multitasking and app continuity. Meanwhile, Vivo’s OriginOS is catching up fast, and early teasers show the X Fold 5 handling multiple apps seamlessly.

Ultimately, the battle between the Vivo X Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will come down to personal preference. Each device brings unique strengths to the table, and consumers will have more choice than ever before in the foldable segment.

6. Final Thoughts: A Game-Changer in the Foldable Market

The Vivo X Fold 5 represents a bold step forward for foldable smartphones. With a sleek, lightweight design, top-tier performance, a powerful camera system, and a massive battery, it checks almost every box for what modern users expect in a premium device.

Its early 2025 release date gives it a head start in the race against competitors like the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It potentially positioned itself as the new benchmark in foldables. Whether it can maintain that lead remains to be seen, but the signs are promising.

If the rumored specs hold true and the software experience lives up to expectations, the X Fold 5 could very well become one of the best foldable phones of the year. It’s a testament to how far foldable technology has come;and where it’s headed next.

As we get closer to its official launch on 25th June 2025, more details will surely emerge. For now, the Vivo X Fold 5 looks set to challenge the dominance of established players. It also carves out its own place in the foldable revolution.
