OnePlus Nord 2 Coming Soon To Nepal: Camera, Performance Monster At Budget

After so many leaks and hype, OnePlus has finally launched its budget monster: OnePlus Nord 2 5G. The phone is a definite upgrade in terms of pretty much everything we saw on the original Nord. Better cameras, better performance, faster charging, cleaner software and the list goes on. So, has OnePlus finally got it spot on with Nord 2? And when will it make its way to Nepal? Overview

Design & Display

The obvious thing you will notice first up is its resemblance with OnePlus 9 series in terms of design. The back looks almost the same as its expensive brothers. It has the rectangular camera housing on the back and dot-style notch at the front. Front and back is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. However, the frame is constucted out of plastic. The phone comes in three color options. One is iconic “Nord” color called Blue Haze that is shiny. Another is Gray Sierra that has matte finish glass and the last one is Green Wood made out of PU Leather (polyurethane leather or plastic leather).

The display is pretty much the same as OnePlus Nord. It has 6.43″ 2400 x 1080 pixels 90Hz Fluid AMOLED display. The display part is less talked about feature from the company because it is not that outstanding feature for the phone after all.

Camera

Probably, the most hyped department is the phone’s cameras. And why not, it has latest Sony IMX766 sensor for the main 50MP sensor along with OIS support. It has an 8MP, 119.7° FOV Ultra-wide sensor with EIS and a 2MP Mono-lens. It has got rid of macro-lens which was just a gimmick in everyone’s view. The rear camera is capable of shooting 4K videos at 30FPS and not 60FPS. There are features like Dual view video where you can shoot videos from both the front and rear camera at once.

For front facing camera, they have discarded the ultra-wide sensor from the OnePlus Nord which is a sad thing. It now has single 32MP, f/2.45 Sony IMX615 sensor. It can record videos at 1080p 30FPS only.

Performance

The phone is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1200 5G chip-set. If we talk about numbers, we get almost double the Antutu score (693439) compared to original Nord (373362). It has promising AI enhanced features and improvements that is better than many competitions out there. For tech nerds, it is an octa-core (1×3.0 GHz Cortex-A78 & 3×2.6 GHz Cortex-A78 & 4×2.0 GHz Cortex-A55) processor built on 6nm process. It may not be the best out there, but is certainly ahead of the game from its competitors in the price.

For internals, it has 6GB/8GB/12GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB/256GB faster UFS3.1 storage. Bear in mind that Nord 2 doesn’t have expandable storage slot.

Software, Battery & Other Features

The phone runs on Android 11 with OxygenOS 11.3 on top. It is clean and has tons of customizability, which is a trademark of the OS. There is a bigger battery with 4500mAh capacity. It is split in half of two 2250mAh each in order to improve charging time. Nord 2 supports Warp Charge 65W to charge your phone quickly compared to 30W on Nord 1.

There is no 3.5mm headphone jack support. The haptics are improved on the phone with Haptics 2.0. It means you will get X-axis linear motor for this specific task. There is no official IP rating on the phone though. The fingerprint scanner on the phone is situated under the display. Nord 2 has dual speakers, one bottom firing and another through earpiece unlike Nord 1.
