Since the dawn of its inception, Internet has become an integral part of everyone’s life. More so, with each passing year, we have become accustomed to faster internet speed. We have become so dependent on the faster internet speed that we become annoyed with low internet speed. Sometimes even if we are subscribed to faster internet plans, we may experience slower internet speed. Well, this may be due to the company’s Fair Usage Policy (FUP). It can affect your internet speed at peak hours and according to your usage. NTC Fiber Service has also a Fair Usage Policy placed in its unlimited internet plans.

About Fair Usage Policy
Fair Usage Policy (FUP) is implemented by most of the ISPs around the globe. It allows them to limit or reduce Internet speeds on unlimited plans in order to avoid misuse or excessive use of bandwidth. These limits are in place to guarantee that the finest possible broadband service is provided to the maximum number of people. Even if you have a 120 Mbps connection with unlimited downloads, your speed may be severely restricted during peak hours. Many customers who purchased high-speed packages based on their usage habits may be frustrated by this. The high speed shown in advertisements targets a large number of customers and pushes them to sign up for super-fast internet and unlimited data plans.
NTC Fair Usage Policy
Like most of the ISPs in Nepal, NTC also implements a Fair Usage Policy in its unlimited internet packages. In NTFiber Service, Fair Usage Policy (FUP) will be applied on daily basis in all individual packages as per below:
Bandwidth | FUP Volume limit per day (GB) | Throttling speed after FUP Volume limit |
8 Mbps | 20 | 5 Mbps |
25 Mbps | 30 | 5 Mbps |
40 Mbps | 40 | 5 Mbps |
80 Mbps | 60 | 5 Mbps |
How to prevent FUP restriction on your internet package
You can take the following precautions to prevent FUP restriction on your NTFiber internet plans:
- Try to avoid unnecessary bandwidth leakage as much as possible i.e. don’t always stream contents at the highest bit rate/resolution available or download extremely large files at once.
- You need to regularly monitor your bandwidth consumption level, by going on your ISP’s website or using its app.
- If you’re someone who simply can’t compromise on bandwidth limitation, then upgrade your subscription to one with higher data volume.
