Performance
New Kirin Processors
Performance is one of the biggest highlights of the Mate 90 lineup.
The standard Mate 90 uses the Kirin 9030, while the Mate 90 Pro moves to the Kirin 9035. Meanwhile, Huawei equips the premium Pro Max with the Kirin 9050 or Kirin 9050 Pro, depending on configuration.
Huawei’s Kirin 9050 Pro introduces its LogicFolding architecture. The company says the technology improves chip density and processing performance through a redesigned internal structure.
According to Reuters, Huawei claims the top-end Mate 90 models deliver up to a 31% performance improvement over the previous flagship generation.
Display
The Mate 90 Pro Max gets one of the most advanced displays in the series.
It features a 6.9-inch dual-layer LTPO OLED panel with a resolution of 2,848 × 1,320 pixels. The display supports an adaptive refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz.
Huawei also claims peak brightness of up to 12,000 nits under specific testing conditions.
Meanwhile, the Pro model uses Huawei’s second-generation Linglong Display technology.
Therefore, the Pro Max is designed to deliver smoother scrolling, strong outdoor visibility and a more premium viewing experience.
Camera
Camera performance remains a major focus of the Mate 90 lineup.
The Mate 90 Pro Max features a 50MP RYYB main camera with a variable f/1.4–f/4.0 aperture and optical image stabilization. It is paired with a 40MP ultrawide camera and a 200MP RYYB periscope telephoto camera.
The telephoto camera supports around 4x optical zoom and up to 8x optical-quality zoom. Digital zoom can reach up to 100x.
Huawei also brings its XMAGE True-to-Color Portrait Camera technology to the series.
External Camera Module
Huawei has also introduced a special camera package for the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition.
The optional modular camera system uses an independent 1-inch sensor and supports up to 10x optical zoom. This turns the phone into a more dedicated photography setup for users who want extra zoom capability.
Battery & Charging
Battery capacity has also increased.
The standard Mate 90 packs a 6,600mAh battery with 66W wired charging and up to 50W wireless charging.
Meanwhile, the Mate 90 Pro Max gets a larger 6,800mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. It also supports 18W wired reverse charging.
As a result, the Pro Max should appeal to users who want long battery life without sacrificing fast charging.
Software & AI
The Mate 90 Series runs HarmonyOS 7, Huawei’s latest smartphone operating system.
Huawei says the new software brings improvements to smart features, connectivity and privacy. The company also highlights its upgraded Xiaoyi assistant and cross-device capabilities.
Huawei says HarmonyOS 7 supports more than 450,000 apps and services, further expanding its ecosystem beyond traditional Android-based smartphones.
Design & Build Quality
The Mate 90 Series continues Huawei’s premium design approach.
The Mate 90 uses Huawei’s Xuanwu architecture and third-generation Kunlun Glass for additional durability. Huawei also introduces distinctive textured finishes on selected Mate 90 colors.
The premium Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design features a titanium middle frame and a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display. It weighs around 248 grams and offers up to 2TB of storage.
