Krafton, the developer of the popular game ‘PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ (PUBG) has filed a big lawsuit indicting mega-hit mobile game Garena Free Fire. It is also suing Apple and Google for distributing those games on their app stores. It does not end with this. PUBG even accuses Google of hosting YouTube videos with the gameplay of the Garena Free Fire and Free Fire Max.

Free Fire and Free Fire Max extensively copy numerous aspects of Battlegrounds, both individually and in combination, including Battlegrounds’ copyrighted unique game opening “air drop” feature, the game structure and play, the combination and selection of weapons, armor, and unique objects, locations, and the overall choice of color schemes, materials, and textures.

Krafton, Creator of PUBG

This lawsuit comes in light as Krafton is unhappy with Apple and Google over their stand on Garena’s Free Fire game. It is important to know that, while Krafton’s PUBG was 2021’s No. 1 game in terms of monthly active users, Garena Free Fire topped the tally in terms of downloads.

Why PUBG developer wants Garena Free Fire banned

According to an official statement from Krafton, “Free Fire and Free Fire Max extensively copy numerous aspects of Battlegrounds, both individually and in combination, including Battlegrounds’ copyrighted unique game-opening “airdrop” feature, the game structure and play, the combination and selection of weapons, armor, and unique objects, locations, and the overall choice of color schemes, materials, and textures.”

Garena Free Fire Ban

Moreover, Krafton says that after the launch of PUBG in 2017, Garena sold a game in Singapore that copied their game. It is believed that Krafton’s predecessors, PUBG and Garena even settled the claims made in Singapore-related games. But, PUBG is unhappy as the concerned party did not enter into a licensing agreement.

Why PUBG developer accuses Apple and Google

In other news, Pubg creator is accusing Google of hosting YouTube videos with the gameplay of the two games: Free Fire and Free Fire Max. Currently, Google is also hosting numerous posts containing a feature-length Chinese film that is nothing more than an infringement of live-action dramatization of Battlegrounds. Garena’s Free Fire and Free Fire Max are available in both App Store and Play Store for free. The PUBG developer even added that Garena has earned hundreds of millions in-game sales through Apple and Google app stores.
