During this time of global emergency, we are all bound to practice physical distancing and staying in self-quarantine. This is the best practice for every one of us to stop the spread of the COVID-19. Despite this fact, many organizations or businesses haven’t been able to adhere to this because it impacts their business. Although most of the business had already shifted to cloud computing during the first wave of COVID 19 in Nepal, many businesses haven’t adopted cloud services yet, which makes it extremely difficult for them to operate at this dire period. In this article, we will share why cloud computing is the best solution and why businesses need to adopt it now more than ever before.

Work in Cloud not Crowd

What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud Computing is the use of hardware and software to deliver a service over a network which is typically the Internet. With cloud computing, users can access files and use applications from any device that can access the Internet. Simply explained, it is the delivery of computing services including servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence over the Internet.

Businesses who are using the cloud have been enjoying the following benefits:

Lower cost:

Regardless of the size of your business, moving to the cloud can help reduce your business’s cost. As a lot of the company’s money gets spent on hardware and software, you can lower the cost by using resources provided by the cloud. Due to the utility-based payment, you pay your service provider for the service you use and the time you use it. Suddenly now IT expenses become opex from capex.

Productivity:

As stated above, businesses can lower their cost on the purchase of hardware and software by using the cloud. This means lesser time is required; to set up and manage hardware and software. So, this time can be used to accomplish important business goals and focus on core business values like service feature development, customer support, security.

Scalability:

Business needs are very much liable to change. So, they might have to upscale or downscale the operations. Most cloud-based service providers support scalability as per the customer requirement. This will allow you to support your business growth without having to make expensive changes to your existing systems and infrastructure.

Business continuity:

This is one of the important features of the cloud. We never know when we get struck by disasters or emergencies. Sometimes, businesses cannot afford to halt their operations for a long time due to the serious consequences it can ultimately bring. Cloud provides comprehensive backup plans and recovery so that you can continue your operations regardless of the situation. Data is very crucial for a business to operate. Therefore, businesses must be sure that they have a good and strong backup plan which meets their Recovery point objective(RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO)

Genese: Nepal’s First Cloud Consulting Company

Moving to the cloud is the best strategy for businesses due to the features and benefits it offers. In Nepal, the pioneer company that provides this service is Genese Solutions Pvt. Ltd. It is a Cloud-native software development company and also Nepal’s first cloud consulting company. It operates with the core objective of creating a cloud computing and cloud-native software development ecosystem in Nepal. The company provides on-demand cloud computing services to individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered pay-as-you-go basis. On a pay-as-you-go basis, you only pay for the services when you need them. So, as per your service needs, you pay for them and you do not get charged for more than what you have consumed.

Genese is the first and only advanced consulting partner for Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Nepal and likewise also sells cloud services of other big names such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Alibaba Cloud, IBM Cloud, and Digital Ocean.

“Cloud computing has democratized development and accelerated Innovation,” says Anjani Phuyal, Global CTO, Genese Solution as the high-end computer systems and network which used to be only accessible and available to the corporates are now available to smaller startups as well in the same pricing. This has created a wonderful environment where a new company can challenge an existing company with 100’s of years of experience and product history.

Many companies big and small namely  Buddha Air, Leapfrog, APCA Nepal (FYMO Nepal), Karkhana, Aayulogic (Merojob), Proshore and GrowByData among a lot of others. have shifted to the cloud because of its mammoth benefit and are reaping all kinds of support benefit from Genese.

With the stress caused by this pandemic regarding safety and health, we are not sure when this stage will pass and everything will go back to normal. Moreover, putting operations at a halt for a long time will have a major impact in the future. Many businesses are having difficulty transitioning from their usual working patterns with the traditional servers and systems in place. So, adopting a cloud-based system is the best solution. It is cost-effective and more importantly helps with business continuity the most important need for now.
