BMUCO has announced that in collaboration with the Chern Institute of Mathematics at Nankai University, their advisor Prof Yang-Hui He has invited the 2020 Nobel Laureate Professor Sir Roger Penrose to give a talk titled “Space-Time Singularities and Cyclic Geometry” this Saturday 7th August at 3:45-4:45 PM NPT.
Professor Penrose is widely considered as one of his generation’s outstanding mathematical physicists. He is most known for his work on singularities with Professor Stephen Hawking, for which he was given the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2020 “for the discovery that black hole development is a robust prediction of general relativity.”
This is a special public lecture on 7th August 2021, given by Professor Sir Roger Penrose on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
Time: 10:00-11:00 AM (GMT+0), 2021.08.07 (August 7), 3:45-4:45 PM NPT
This public lecture is part of a series of events named “Nankai Symposium on Mathematical Dialogues,” which runs from Monday, August 2nd, to Friday, August 13th. Professor Ge, Bai, and He organized the first “Nankai Symposium in Physics, Geometry, and Number Theory” in August 2017 at the Chern Institute. Over 50 people from more than ten countries spent a week at the Chern Institute, interacting intensively and giving many intriguing speeches on topics ranging from gauge theories to string compactifications, from modular forms to complicated geometry. Several participants also contributed to the book “Topology & Physics,” edited by CN Yang, ML Ge, and YH He (WS 2019), which was recently named “one of the top 100 influential works on quantum mechanics of all time” by Book Authority. The symposium was a resounding success, with plans to expand it beyond discussions between mathematical physicists and geometers/numerologists.
