Apple has unveiled the latest iterations of its flagship smartphones, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The new Pro models introduce several major changes including a redesigned titanium exterior, upgraded USB-C port, customizable Action button, upgraded chipset, and more.
Design and Build
The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max represent a bold new look for Apple, with a brushed titanium frame replacing the traditional stainless steel. This new titanium build brings a lighter and more durable chassis while still offering a premium look and feel.
Apple also removed the iconic mute switch on the side of the iPhone for the first time, instead adding a customizable Action button. This mappable button can be set to quickly mute the iPhone, launch the camera, control smart home devices, and much more based on user preferences.
The front is still defined by the Dynamic Island notch housing the front-facing cameras and Face ID components. Both models are again offered in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes.
New A17 Pro Chip
Powering the iPhone 15 Pro series is Apple’s latest proprietary chipset, the A17 Pro. Fabricated on an upgraded 3nm process, this new chip delivers increased performance and efficiency.
Apple claims the 6-core CPU is up to 10x faster than the competition while the 5-core GPU offers 20% faster graphics. The updated Neural Engine enhances iOS experiences like autocorrect, Siri, and Live Text with double the speed.
The A17 Bionic also enables new capabilities like the addition of USB 3.0 for faster wired data transfers through the new USB-C port.
