iPhone 12 Mini, 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max Goes Official: Here’s What We Know so Far

It’s the near-end of the year 2020, the time in which Apple launches its latest iPhones each year. After months of leaks and rumors, Apple has finally unveiled 4 new iPhones this year, namely iPhone 12 Mini, 12, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max. Like each year, the new iPhones are faster, more powerful, and more beautiful with premium price tags. These phones are especially for people seeking high performance, security, great cameras, and world-leading smartphone software. With premium features and premium price tags, are there any major upgrades over the previous generations? Can they outperform their own models to be called true successors? This is the first iPhone Apple unveiled in the virtual live event. This 5G phone will give you iPhone 4 vibe, seriously. It has that characteristic flat sides we remember from iPhone 4, 5 and SE. The front of the phone is covered with what apple calls “Ceramic Shield”, a material designed by Corning.

The display on iPhone 12 is a huge upgrade as compared to iPhone 11. Now we are seeing an FHD panel on non-pro models as well. It’s a 6.1″ OLED Super Retina XDR display with an incredible contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1. The display’s peak brightness is whooping 1200 nits as well. But, it just has a regular 60Hz refresh rate, which is disappointing considering today’s standards. Nevertheless, this is truly an amazing display with very good contrast to enjoy your content.

Talking about the performance, there is the latest new Apple A14 Bionic chipset with 5G capability, with 3.5GBPS download speed on the day to day usage. It’s the world’s first 5nm processor, which improves battery life. It’s Hexa-core CPU with 4-core GPU. This is the fastest processor till now, on any smartphone. This year’s iPhones have improved Neural Engine and AI performance.

It has dual camera setup, as in iPhone 11. The 12MP primary camera has an aperture of f/1.6 with 7-element lens. It has optical image stabilization for better photos and video capturing. The second one is an ultra-wide lens with f/2.4 aperture and 5-element lens. It has 120 degrees of FOV.

The phone supports wireless charging, lightning charger and no headphone jack (as expected)

iPhone 12 Mini

This is the newest and the only member in “Mini” model of iPhone. It has relatively smaller screen size and smaller form factor overall. A big design change has been made in the body of the phone. The company has gone with flat screen design with square shaped body. The edges are sharp and looks like an iPhone 4 or 5s. Well, this year, all the iPhones have almost the same design. The phone resembles iPhone 12 in every possible way internally and externally, but in a smaller form factor.

It’s got smaller 5.4″ 2340 X 1080 resolution Super Retina XDR display with HDR and Dolby Vision support. iPhone 12 Mini has got same 1200 nits peak brightness as we get on more expensive models. The model gets the same chip-set, Apple A14 Bionic, the most powerful chip-set on a smartphone yet. The camera arrangement is also the same as iPhone 12. It has dual camera sytem with 12MP(primary with OIS)+12MP (ultra-wide) sensors arrangement. It even retains IP68 water/dust resistance. All of that at a lower price point, which is a great deal for customers.

Specs: iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max

iPhone 12 Pro

This is a more expensive option among the two phones mentioned above. The “Pro” on the name suggests to a bigger display, form factor and extra cameras. However, the design is same with flat edges and flat sides. The sides are made from more durable stainless steel. The front is covered with the same material as the non-pro models, Ceramic Shield. The back is made out of glass as well.

It has larger 6.1″ 2532 X 1170 pixels Super Retina XDR display with 1200 nits of peak brightness. This is an excellent display with contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1. We get the same chip-set, A14 Bionic (5G CPU) to handle every apps and games you can possibly imagine.

There is a triple camera setup on the back with inclusion of TOF 3D depth camera, LiDAR scanner. There is an addition of 12MP 2X optical zoom telephoto lens to let you get close to far objects and people. The TOF 3D depth camera lets you do cool things, like you can scan rooms for making virtual adjustments. This camera is used for faster focusing in low-light scenarios and night mode as well.

iPhone 12 Pro Max

This is the biggest and most expensive iPhone in it’s lineup. The overall form factor and screen size is larger than any iPhone this year. The design material chosen is same as iPhone 12 Pro. It has got 6.7″ 2778 X 1284 pixels OLED Super Retina XDR display with peak brightness of 1200 nits and 60Hz. We still don’t get any higher refresh rate screen, even after paying hefty amount. The company could have provided at least 90Hz screen, but sadly, we cannot experience the feature this year.

The camera system is same as used in iPhone 12 Pro. This is a triple camera system with a TOF 3D LiDAR camera. You can zoom in to objects with 2.5X optical zoom lens provided in iPhone 12 Pro Max. The lens of camera is covered with sapphire glass. It features OIS for stable photos and videos. Talking about videos, the phone can record 4K at 60FPS as well.

In terms of performance, it features Apple A14 Bionic 5G chip-set. This is the same as used in other iPhones this year. With advanced Neural Engine and AI capability, the performance is top notch, as we would expect from the latest iPhone. The phone runs on latest IOS 14 as well.

The new iPhones will be available for pre-order in selected regions from October 16. iPhone 12 and 12 Pro will be available for pre-order starting from October 16 and available to buy from October 23. iPhone 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max will be available for pre-order starting from 6th November whereas they will be readily available to buy from 13th November.
