Coolpad, the last time this name rang everyone’s ears was when Coolpad Cool1 Dual was launched back in 2016. It was one of the first few phones launched in Nepal that had a dual rear camera setup alongside Mi A1 and iPhone 7 Plus. After that, the company disappeared from the hype. It did continue to launch other smartphones in Nepal until its last release of CoolPad Cool Play 6 back in 2018. None of those phones grabbed much attention from the consumers. Now after 2 years, CoolPad is making a comeback with a Nepal-first release of their new mid-ranger i.e. CoolPad Cool 6.
Design and Display
It has a 6.53-inch fully immersive FHD display with minimal bezels and a pop-up selfie camera mechanism. The back panel has a simple gradient design with a pill-shaped triple camera setup on the top left, an oval physical fingerprint scanner in the middle, and some horizontal banding on the bottom left. The company hasn’t specified anything, but it is highly likely that the back is plastic with a glossy finish for the gradient.
Hardware and Performance
Well, the company did make a comeback but totally spoiled everyone’s expectations with the use of a slower and older MediaTek Helio P70 chipset based on 12nm architecture. It is an octa-core chipset with four Cortex A73 and four Cortex A53 cores. The 6GB RAM is LDPPR4x complimented by 128GB of eMCC 5.1 storage. Even though no info has been given, I don’t think any smartphone company would dare to ship their new products with less than Android 10 at the end of 2020.
Camera
The triple camera setup may seem versatile at first but except for the useful 48MP main camera, the other two 2MP sensors haven’t been specified by the company. So, they are probably a depth and macro sensor as per the trend of 2MP sensors on other smartphones. The selfie pop-up sensor is of 21MP and as per our research, both the rear and front camera support 1080p videos and Night mode.
Battery
The 4000mAh battery capacity seems to be good as compared to other specifications but no fast charging has been advertised by the company yet.

With the only variant being the 6GB RAM and 128 storage one, it is priced at NPR. 26,999 and comes in two color options – Blue and Silver.
Verdict
There were a lot of maybes in this article so, we really need to test the device to give an honest verdict. The specs on paper however seem to be lacking as compared to other similar priced competitors in the market. Let us wait and see how the Nepalese consumers will receive this bold step from Coolpad as this phone hasn’t been launched anywhere outside of Nepal yet.
