Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is finally available for purchase after weeks of pre-booking procedure. This is the first time we are seeing a handset of this design in Nepal and surely the price is also the first time for everyone. Let us do some short probing into the phone’s design, specs, and price that may help you with your purchase decision or maybe not?
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Overview
The first Samsung Galaxy Fold had a lot of durability issues and Samsung had to keep postponing its launch but learning lessons from that and taking inspiration from successful foldable phones like Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Z Flip 5G, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is much more refined.
The phone comes with two displays. The outer display is a 6.2-inch HD+ panel with HDR10+ support, 60Hz normal refresh rate and a tall 25:9 aspect ratio with 10MP punch hole selfie sensor making you able to use the phone even when the fold is closed. The inner display is a large 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with HDR10+ support and variable (auto-adjusting) refresh rate of 120Hz like on the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra but with no S Pen support here. The bezels are lesser than the first Galaxy Fold and the screen resolution is 2,208 x 1,768 pixels. There is another 10MP punch hole selfie shooter on the right segment of the 7.6-inch foldable panel. The fingerprint sensor here is not in-display but a physical one that lies on the side-mounted power button. There is no Bixby button.
For protection, the cover display has the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus from Samsung whereas the back panel uses Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The glass on the new Z Fold 2 is UTG (Ultra-thin glass) with under metal cushion structure. There is a gap when the screen folds making it easier to unfold. The hinge here has the same flex mode feature as that of the Galaxy Z Flip. Due to the new CAM technology, the fold display can stand still between 75 to 115 degrees like an opened laptop. There’s also a ‘sweeper’ mechanism to prevent dust particles from entering into the hinge. This mechanism is not an external tool but works on its own from inside the hinge every time you fold or unfold the display.

Samsung has offered its customers from some countries with hinge colour options but in Nepal, you will only be able to choose between the default Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black colour of the available phone variants.
For such an expensive phone, the processor is obviously the best one out there right now. Powered by the latest Snapdragon 865+ coupled with 12GB LPDDR5 memory and 256GB UFS 3.0 storage, it is the only Samsung smartphone in Nepal to come with a Snapdragon processor. It also has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 and 5G. There is UWB (Ultra-wide Band) for faster data transfer between devices and Samsung’s popular Wireless Dex Mode. The software is Samsung’s One UI 2.5 based on Android 10 that includes some handy features to improve the multitasking experience on the tab like 7.6-inch display.
The main rear rectangular camera module bump is quite similar to the Note 20 line-up. The rear triple camera setup includes 12MP main with OIS, 12 MP ultra-wide and 12MP 2x telephoto sensor. There is no 8K video but 4K @ 30 or 60fps is quite sufficient.
In terms of battery, there is a dual cell 4500 mAh battery residing inside the two segments of the fold. It supports 25W wired, 10W wireless and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Price in Nepal and Availability
Unlike free Galaxy Buds Live with the pre-booking offer, you will only get 1-year breakage insurance with your purchase now.
Model | Price in Nepal |
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 (12 GB+256 GB) | NPR. 2,49,999 |
The pricing is much better than £1799 (Europe) but only a little bit expensive when compared to USD 1,999 and INR 1,49,999. You can buy the phone from Samsung authorized stores in the country.
Verdict
Even though its design and specifications are quite tempting, due to that mind-boggling pricing I think it has very less hopes of wowing the Nepalese consumers.
