Design and Build Quality
This year following Apple’s footsteps, Samsung has decided to release the S24 Ultra series with a titanium frame and a flat display. This year Samsung decided to go flat with Gorilla Glass Victus 3 at both front and back giving it the best protection that Gorilla Glass can provide right now. As the name suggests the Ultra flagship is a big phone and by no means it is meant to be used with a single hand, your hands have to do a bit of gymnasium to reach the upper corners of the phone. The other aspects considering the design are both the volume and power button are on the left-hand side and there are stereo speakers at the bottom and one in the earpiece. The bottom houses a USB type-c for charging and the infamous S-pen for the ultra.
Display
The S24 Ultra display is simply breathtaking. One of the best displays in the business, the S24 Ultra display is striking in both color accuracy and brightness reaching a brightness height up to 2600 nits. Samsung has gone with a completely flat display this time in contrast to how the older flagship had a slight display curve. The 6.8-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X screen doesn’t fail to deliver vibrant colors, deep inky blacks, and excellent contrast. The display supports HDR10+ and Spen support. The refresh rate is still kept at the sweet spot of 120hz. The PWM dimming for the display is not as high as the Chinese counterparts, but it has been improved from what we used to get from the past generation.
Performance
Powered by the latest and greatest chip that Qualcomm has to offer, the S24 ultra has a beast of a performance. As the partnership from both the tech giants has again developed an overclocked custom version of the regular 8 Gen 3, especially for Galaxy, The phone comes with a large vapor chamber cooling ensuring cool temperatures in even performance-heavy tasks. The Ultra comes in a memory configuration of 12 GB RAM and a base storage of 256GB with fast UFS 4.0 storage. The storage configuration can be upgraded to up to 1 TB of internal storage keeping the RAM the same for every storage model.
Camera
The S24 Ultra boasts one of the most versatile smartphone cameras set on the back. The quad rear camera setup consists of a 200 MP primary camera with multi-directional PDAF, Laser AF, OIS, a 12 MP, f/2.2 ultra-wide, with Dual Pixel PDAF a 10MP telephoto for 3x optical, and a 50MP periscope telephoto with 5x optical zoom. There is a single front camera – a 12MP imager.
The camera is a substantial improvement in terms of video shooting capabilities over its past iteration. The new Qualcomm chip allows the phone to capture a smooth 4k @120 fps video and also enables the capability to switch any lenses in 4k 60-frame videos.
Software and AI
Samsung is cashing in hard in the realm of artificial intelligence with the S24 series. These features include live video translation, a dynamic lock screen, a smart keyboard, and more. Battery
Carrying the baton of the S23 Ultra the S24 Ultra also packs a 5000 mAh battery and a 2-day battery under normal usage as promised by Samsung. The 5000 mAh Li-ion battery supports 45-watt fast charging which in my opinion is quite slow in 2024. The phone can reach 65% battery in 30 minutes as per the advertisement. It supports both wireless and reverse wireless charging, but speed is still kept at 15 watts and 4.5 watts respectively.
Additional Features
The S24 ultra ticks all the boxes when it comes to sensors except the IR blaster. The phone comes with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 There is an ultrasonic fingerprint reader for security and the phone also packs the convenient additional feature of Samsung Dex. The phone also supports the UWB (ultra-wide band support), and Emergency SOS via satellite is enabled for the first time.
