Pathao was officially launched in Nepal on 24th of September during 2018 but ride sharing apps have existed since 2017 here in Nepal. After 7 years of this and that, Bagmati Province has finally announced that they are now in the final stages of creating a legal structure for the likes of ride sharing apps. Since their release ride sharing apps have changed how Nepalese people perceived means of transportation.
Motorbikes as taxis and booking them with a tap in the screen has surely impressed the people, and over 7 years, these apps have seen a huge growth in the number of both the passengers and riders. Now, after 6 years of service, one of the most popular ride sharing app in Nepal, Pathao is expanding
Ride sharing apps have been legal in Nepal for 2 years now but there was no regulations set for this kind, but recently the draft of guidelines for ride sharing has been finalized and is in process of getting validated by the ministry of “Economic Affairs & Planning ” and ministry of ” Labour, Employment and Transport “. In the best case scenario, these apps will have no obligations anymore to operate in Nepal freely after this.
The draft states the requirement of registration of the vehicles like any other passenger carrying vehicles and an annual renewal at the Transport Management office. Now, whether the implementation of these rules will happen or not, can only be told by time. Pathao has employed over 2,00,000 people right now as motorbike riders, captains or for food delivery.

Which cities Pathao is expanding to?
Finally, after years of service Pathao is planning to expand to 17 new cities. This is going to be a huge employment opportunity for people there as Pathao has already opened registration in the targeted areas according to the company. The app is planning to expand to 17 different cities including, Biratnagar, Damak, Urlabari, Biratchowk, Itahari, Inaruwa, Dharan, Birtamod, Bhadrapur, Butwal, Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa, Birgunj, Janakpur, Dhangadhi, and Hetauda.
The company says there will be more cities being included in the near future. People here have definitely loved this app over the years and if Pathao succeeds in expanding to these following cities, its a win for both Technology and people of Nepal.
