In a remarkable showcase of talent and innovation, Shequal Foundation recently organized Nepal’s Largest All-female Hackathon, “Hacking for Empowered Nepal,” from May 11th to 13th, 2024. The event brought together 60 women participants from diverse backgrounds and provinces across Nepal, all sharing a passion for technology and innovation. Held at TEWA Nepal, this residential hackathon spanned 72 hours and was a true celebration of inclusiveness in the tech industry.
During the hackathon, these talented women exhibited their creativity and technical prowess by developing groundbreaking solutions and coding tirelessly. The event, in collaboration with Teslatech Nepal and supported by the U.S. Embassy, Nepal, and UN Women, not only provided a platform for skill development and collaboration but also fostered a strong sense of camaraderie and empowerment among the participants.

The hackathon culminated in an exciting finale where Team PhysioNep claimed the winning position, securing a cash prize of NPR 1,00,000 with their innovative solution focusing on angle detection for physiotherapy processes. Following closely, Team Poshan Sathi emerged as the First Runner Up, earning a cash prize of NPR 75,000 for their impactful solution centered around nutrition empowerment in Nepal. Lastly, Team LadyBugs clinched the Second Runner Up spot, receiving a prize of NPR 50,000 for their creation of a cervix type identifier.
Commencing on May 11th, the hackathon began with a vibrant mix of activities, including engaging workshops and networking opportunities. As the event progressed, participants had the privilege of interacting with industry experts who served as mentors, offering valuable guidance and insights to support their projects and aspirations.
Astha Sharma, the Founder and Co-Managing Director of Shequal Foundation, expressed her elation at the hackathon’s success, highlighting the participants’ exceptional creativity and technical skills in addressing critical issues in Nepal through innovative solutions.
