What is a Hackathon?
Generally, a hackathon is a full-day event that includes people who come together to imagine, design, develop, and present a product from scratch; and also win cool prizes. The goal of the event is to take an idea from inception to completion and present their accomplishments by the teams present. Hack Fest Kathmandu aims to provide a platform where the student community will come together to build innovative solutions that solve real problems who will also be guided and helped by mentors in the related fields.
Why Hack Fest Kathmandu?
Hack Fest Kathmandu has been organized with the following objectives:
Promote creativity & team working
The event will work as a platform for participants to explore creativity and their collaboration skills for better learning and career development.
Mentorship and guidance from professionals
Students will be able to learn from professionals on how software projects are handled in the real world. They will be able to improve their skills opening more opportunities for them in the future.
Build innovative solutions
Hack Fest Kathmandu provides a platform for students and innovators to convert their ideas into innovative solutions. These solutions can help to create an impact by means of technology.
Hack Fest Kathmandu: Workshops and Sessions
Prior to the hackathon event, several workshops and sessions were organized targeting students as well as the developers’ community.
Flutter animations

Flutter is Google’s UI toolkit for building beautiful, natively compiled applications for mobile, web, and desktop from a single codebase

Getting started with Flutter

We conducted our second workshop for the students of NCIT college. We collaborated with NCIT to tech students application development with Flutter on the occasion of Software Freedom Day.
Web development in Vue
September 28, 2019 (Fusemachines Nepal, Hattisar)
Vue.js is a JavaScript framework that is being widely used across the world for web development. In this workshop, we went deep dive into the fundamental concepts in Vue. Participants were guided through interactive exercises as they learned by building a complete Vue app.

Challenges
The available challenges for the hackathon are as follows:
Youth employment
Build anything that contributes to resolve youth employment issues
Health and Hacking
Build apps and data science projects in exercise, nutrition, or mental health
Hack Education
Create apps that will contribute to the classroom.
Hack the Arts
Hack around music, writing, and art. Younger students could build simple apps that play songs. Older students can play with Text-to-Speech and auto-tuning.
Hack Social cause
Create something that contributes to resolving social issues like inequality and discrimination by means of technology.
Register for the event from the website and get to be a part of learning and growing experience. The participation fee is Rs. 300 per person. If your product manages to get into the top 3, you’re getting prizes as well. The prize is set to be Rs. 25000, Rs. 15000, and Rs. 5000 for teams getting first, second and third position respectively.
