Xiaomi 12 Series Debuts With Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, 50MP Camera

Xiaomi finally unveiled their new Xiaomi 12 lineup along with a new update to MIUI, a new smartwatch, new headphones, and more at its launch event. The new Xiaomi 12 lineup consists of Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and the Xiaomi 12X. Adding to this, the Xiaomi 12 and 12Pro is equipped with the very best Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. Design and Display

Talking about the design, Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and the Xiaomi 12X are rocking a new design, especially at the back. Since they have preferred to go with a cleaner design with the camera placed vertically. Similarly, at the front, there is only a little change where the front punch-hole cut-out is shifted to the top middle instead of its left positioning seen in the last year’s Xiaomi Mi 11.

Talking about the display, the Xiaomi 12 and 12X features a 6.28-inch AMOLED panel with a center-punch-hole display. Adding to this, Xiaomi 12 gets a Full-HD+ resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. Similarly, the 12 Pro will feature a flagship Samsung E5 AMOLED LTPO display. Also, there is a slight increment in screen size as well. Since the Xiaomi 12 Pro gets a 6.73-inch display screen with 2k(1440 x 3200 pixels) resolution. Likewise, Xiaomi 12, the 12 Pro also gets a 120Hz refresh rate.

Camera

As mentioned earlier, the phone comes with a vertical camera module featuring a triple camera system. The Xiaomi 12 and 12X features a Sony IMX 766 sensor that is found in several of the 2021 flagships phones from major Android makers. Hence, Xiaomi 12 and 12X flaunts a 50MP primary lens, 13MP ultra-wide lens, and a 5MP telephoto camera. Similarly, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is rocking a Sony IMX707 sensor for the main shooter. Adding to this, the Pro model will have a 50MP primary, telephoto lens, and ultra-wide sensor. Coming to the front camera, all three models are equipped with a 32MP front camera.

Hardware and Software

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC whereas the Xiaomi 12X is powered by the Snapdragon 870 SoC. All three models are paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The Xiaomi 12 Pro gets a 4,600mAh battery with a 120W fast charging support, while the Mi 12 and 12X get a 4,500mAh battery limited to 67W fast charging technology.

The 12 and 12 Pro features a 50W fast wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging support. However, Xiaomi 12X does lack this feature. Moving ahead, the series will be tuned with Harmon Kardon speakers. The Xiaomi 12 and 12X will have a stereo-speaker setup whereas the Pro model gets a quad-speaker setup. Interestingly, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is powered by Xiaomi’s in-house Surge P1 chip, which is believed to be useful for power management.

Out of the box, the Xiaomi 12 series will run on MIUI 12.5 that is based on Android 11.
