Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G, Note 10 Launched: Major Upgrades & Downgrades

As expected, Xiaomi has launched 5G versions of Note 10 and Note 10 Pro in China today. There are few subtle upgrades and downgrade in them over the 4G versions. Let’s go through them one by one in this quick overview of the phones with specifications and expected price in Nepal.

Overview

Personally, I prefer the design of 4G version more over 5G model in Note 10 here. The back is made of plastic and light seems to be diverging from the camera module. The gradient finish on Note 10 looked far better in my opinion. In Note 10 Pro 5G, you will get three color options, Magic Green, Moon Soul and Star Yarn. The back is made up of glass.

Display

Talking about the display, Xiaomi traded AMOLED display with 60Hz for IPS LCD with 90Hz refresh rate. It is a 6.5″ FHD+ IPS LCD panel with adaptive refresh rate. The display can dynamically switch between 30Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz and 90Hz depending on the content. I think it is a downgrade in terms of display quality and viewing experience choosing LCD panel here.

In Note 10 Pro 5G, it is the same case. There is now 6.6″ FHD+ 120Hz IPS LCD panel with punch hole cutout. AMOLED screen will be missed in both of them for sure. It has typical brightness of 450nits, which is nowhere as compared to 4G variant’s 1200nits. However, the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Victus. It is the same glass used by most flagship phones these days, which is a plus point for the phone.

Performance

The Note 10 5G comes with MediaTek Dimensity 700U 5G (7nm) processor and 10 Pro 5G has Dimensity 1100 (6nm) processor. Both are 5G enabled CPUs. They perform significantly better than Note 10 and Note 10 Pro 4G. The pro version consists of quadruple cooling system with vapor chamber, copper heat pipes and graphite plates to keep the phone cool while intensive gaming.

Redmi Note 10 5G ships with up to 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage option. The Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G comes with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Camera

The cameras on Note 10 is basically the same as last gen, with exclusion of an ultra-wide sensor. It has triple camera setup with 48MP+2MP+2MP lenses combination. For selfie, the company has provided 8MP front facing camera. However, the primary sensor on Note 10 Pro 5G lacks in terms of resolution. It now has 64MP primary lens instead of 108MP on 4G version along with 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP Macro sensor, making it a triple camera system. There is 16MP front facing camera for selfies.

Other Features

Both of them have 5000mAh battery. Note 10 Pro 5G supports 67W fast charging that can charge it in around 42 minutes. It comes with JBL dual stereo speakers for high resolution sound system. It also has 3 microphone array that works well for noise cancellation during calls as well. One important thing is that Note 10 Pro 5G doesn’t have 3.5mm headphone jack and micro-SD card support.

Currently, Note 10 Pro is launched in China only. There is no information about when the device will be launched outside of China. Redmi Note 10 5G is launched at around $210 for 4GB/64GB and $230 for 6GB+128GB. The price of Redmi Note 10 Pro is $250 for 6GB/128GB, $281 for 8GB/128GB and $313 for 8GB/256GB variant.
