Apple’s iPad Air 2020 that was launched in its September event is finally coming to Nepal. With the use of latest A14 Bionic chipset seen in the iPhone 12 lineup, this year’s iPad Air has made many people think of buying this over the expensive iPad Air Pro lineup. Not just the chipset, there are other features to consider as well. So, let us take a quick look at what the hype is about along with its pricing in Nepal.
Apple iPad Air 2020 Overview
Design and Display
With bezels similar to the iPad Pro, iPad Air has a 10.9-inch IPS Retina display with True Tone and Wide Color (P3) support. The fully laminated glass display has coating for fingerprint resistance and anti-reflection. The aluminum back and frame has a clean matte finish. Also, this is the cheapest iPad launched in 2020 that supports the 2nd gen Apple Pencil. But unlike the iPad Pro, it has a traditional 60Hz refresh rate. Due to minimal bezels, the Touch ID has been moved to the top right corner of the iPad. It is faster than previous generation of Touch ID. The magnetic connector is also present that supports both Magic and Smart Folio keyboard like on the expensive iPad Pro.
Hardware and Performance
The best-selling point of this iPad is obviously the use of the latest A14 Bionic chipset seen in the iPhone 12 lineup. Compared to A12 Bionic chipset of last gen iPad Air, Apple is claiming 40% better CPU performance and 30% better GPU. The 5nm based A14 chipset is a hexa-core CPU with quad-core GPU and 16-core neural engine which rivals the old A12Z Bionic chipset of the iPad Pro 2020 and even beats it in some areas. All iPads launched in 2020 including this iPad Air run the latest iPad OS 14 and will continue to receive future updates for more than 3-4 years looking at the current trend of Apple.
Camera
It has better camera than the normal iPad of 2020 but lacks the ultra-wide sensor and LiDAR scanner present on the iPad Pro lineup. The 12MP f/1.8 rear sensor is the same one seen on the iPhone 11 and iPad Pro. The front sensor is a 7MP FaceTime HD camera with f/2.0 aperture which doesn’t support Face ID. 4K@60fps video from the rear and up to 1080p@60fps from the front is possible in the iPad Air 2020. Smart HDR and Auto Image Stabilization is present on both.
Battery
The 28.6 Watt-hour lithium-polymer battery is claimed to last up to 10 hours on surfing web or watching video when using Wi-Fi and 1 hour lesser on a 4G cellular network. 5G hasn’t arrived on any iPad yet.
