WLIT (Women Leaders in Technology Nepal) have established themselves as the NGO that has been able to work for the empowerment of Nepalese women in our tech industry. They have been working to empower and encourage women in technology by creating several opportunities as well as boosting the ones that are already here. Recently, the Girls in ICT Day Hackathon by WLIT Nepal is being organised in Kathmandu.
Girls in ICT Day initiative is a global effort to encourage girls and young women to consider studies and careers in information and communication technologies (ICT). It takes place every year on the fourth Thursday of April and since 2011, over 240,000 girls and young women have taken part in 7,200 Girls in ICT Day celebrations in 160+ countries worldwide. This year, it is being celebrated on 26 April 2018.
Women Leaders in Technology is calling for female students who are also tinkerers, innovators, and creators to take part in the annual Hackathon preceding the Girl in ICT Day. The participants can use forms of ICT technology including but not limited to Mobile Apps and websites to build on the concept of Smart Cities in Nepal. Winner of the hackathon will receive recognition and cash prize on the Girls in ICT Day event organized by Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), which is organising this event in collaboration with WLIT Nepal.
This year’s theme for this event is Smart cities. The prizes include Rs. 15K, 10K, and 5K for top 3 winning teams respectively. The registration closes on 20th April, 2018 and the orientation is also on the same day. The major hackathon event will take place on 22nd April.
